Tragedy struck the Chicago South Side on Saturday night, as an 8-year-old girl was killed in a gang-related shooting near 52nd St. and South Damen Ave. The shooting took place at 9:18 p.m., leaving two boys, aged 1 and 7, critically injured. Additionally, eight other individuals, ranging in age from 19 to 40, were also injured in the incident. The victims were standing outside at a family gathering when a witness reportedly saw a black sedan approach the scene and shots were fired.
The Chicago Police Department quickly responded to the scene, where they applied tourniquets and chest seals to aid the victims. The Chicago Fire Department then transported the injured individuals to local hospitals for further treatment. Deputy Police Chief Don Jerome stated that the shooting was believed to be gang-related, although no arrests have been made at this time.
