Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has taken to Instagram to compare Meta’s latest headset, the Quest 3, to Apple’s Vision Pro. In the video, Zuckerberg highlights the advantages of the Quest 3 and argues that it is superior for most mixed reality uses.
One of the key selling points of the Quest 3 is its affordability. Zuckerberg points out that the Quest 3 is approximately seven times cheaper than the Vision Pro. Despite the lower price point, the Quest 3 still offers high-quality passthrough with large screens, similar to the Vision Pro.
According to Zuckerberg, comfort is another area where the Quest 3 outshines its Apple competitor. Weighing 120 grams less and without any wires impeding movement, the Quest 3 provides a more comfortable user experience. Additionally, it boasts a wider field of view, a brighter screen, and reduced motion blur compared to the Vision Pro.
The Quest 3 also surpasses the Vision Pro in terms of controllers and hand tracking capabilities. Zuckerberg praises the Quest’s precision controllers and more accurate hand tracking, making it a standout choice for users.
Another advantage of the Quest 3 is its extensive library of immersive content. Users can not only enjoy games but also watch YouTube or play Xbox, offering a wide range of entertainment options.
Zuckerberg expresses surprise at the compromises Apple had to make with the Vision Pro’s higher resolution screen, suggesting that comfort and ergonomics were sacrificed. He hopes that Meta’s devices will eventually prevail in the market, indicating that Apple is not always at the forefront of new product categories.
The Quest 3 was launched in October and features two 2K LCD panels. In comparison, the Vision Pro utilizes 4K microLED displays. While the Quest 3 weighs 515 grams, the Vision Pro ranges between 600 and 650 grams, requiring a separate battery pack.
Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset and equipped with 8GB RAM, the Quest 3 delivers a powerful performance. It also comes with Touch Plus controllers for enhanced gameplay.
Meta, previously known as Facebook Reality Labs, has a history of producing successful headsets, including the Oculus Quest, Oculus Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest Pro.
As for Apple, they have no plans of giving up on manufacturing headsets. Rumors suggest that their next-generation version will be more affordable, indicating their commitment to the market. Apple CEO Tim Cook has referred to the Vision Pro as “tomorrow’s technology today.”
While the battle between Meta and Apple continues, it seems that the Quest 3’s affordability, comfort, and advanced features position it as a strong contender in the evolving world of mixed reality.
