Chick-fil-A to Shift Chicken Sourcing to No Antibiotics Important to Human Medicine
Chick-fil-A has announced a significant change to its chicken sourcing policy, revealing plans to shift from antibiotic-free chicken to No Antibiotics Important to Human Medicine (NAIHM) starting in the Spring of 2024. This decision comes as a result of supply concerns and the chain’s commitment to maintaining high-quality chicken.
The specific deadline for the rollout of this change has not yet been announced by Chick-fil-A. NAIHM means that antibiotics important to human medicine will be restricted in the raising of the chickens, while NAE indicates that no antibiotics of any kind were used in the process.
Previously, Chick-fil-A had committed to serving antibiotic-free chicken in all of its chain restaurants by 2019. The shift to NAIHM is aimed at ensuring the availability of high-quality chicken that meets the chain’s standards.
This announcement comes on the heels of similar moves by other major food chains. Panera Bread recently switched from its antibiotic-free policy in pork and turkey products due to supply chain limitations. Additionally, Tyson Foods reintroduced certain antibiotics to its chicken supply chain last summer after previously going antibiotic-free in 2017.
As Chick-fil-A prepares for this transition, customers can expect to see changes in the sourcing of their beloved chicken products come Spring 2024. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving story.
