Wake County Animal Center to Resume Adoptions After Dog-Flu Outbreak
After an eight-week closure due to a dog-flu outbreak, the Wake County Animal Center is set to reopen for adoptions. The center has successfully contained the virus, preventing more animals from falling ill or losing their lives. Adoptions will resume on Monday, December 4, but only by appointment.
While cats will be available for adoption starting on Monday, dog adoptions will commence on Wednesday. The shelter currently has 13 cats, 20 kittens, and over 100 dogs eagerly awaiting their forever homes.
During the closure, the staff worked diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals in their care. Sadly, four dogs lost their lives to the virus, but the center took necessary precautions to prevent further spread. Owner surrenders, however, will continue to be suspended until further notice.
In light of the recent outbreak, pet owners are urged to prioritize the safety of their furry friends by ensuring they receive proper vaccinations. This serves as a critical reminder of the importance of keeping pets up to date on their vaccinations and preventive healthcare.
The Wake County Animal Center is committed to closely monitoring for any future outbreaks, working tirelessly to provide a safe environment for all the animals in their care. They encourage the community to do the same and remain vigilant in protecting their pets’ health.
Local support and adoptions are vital to the center’s mission of finding loving forever homes for these animals. By adopting from the center, the community not only helps these animals but also contributes to the overall goal of reducing the number of homeless pets.
With the resumption of adoptions, the Wake County Animal Center looks forward to welcoming eager new pet owners and ensuring a successful placement for each animal. Appointments can be made directly through the center’s website or by phone.
As the center continues its tireless efforts to care for animals in need, the community’s support is integral to their mission. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these deserving animals.
