NASA and Voyager 1 Resume Communication After Technical Issue Resolved
After a five-month hiatus, NASA has announced that engineers have successfully resolved a technical issue that had interrupted communication with the Voyager 1 spacecraft. The spacecraft had stopped sending usable data back to the space agency due to a faulty chip in its Flight Data Subsystem.
Engineers worked tirelessly to identify and fix the issue, which involved dividing the affected code into sections and moving them to various locations in the FDS memory. The reconfigured code was transmitted to Voyager 1 on April 18, with confirmation of the modification’s success received on April 20.
This breakthrough allows engineers to once again check the health and status of Voyager 1, which first embarked on its mission in 1977 to tour the gas giant planets of the solar system alongside Voyager 2. Moving forward, the team plans to adjust additional portions of the affected FDS software in the coming months to ensure the spacecraft continues to operate smoothly.
The successful reestablishment of communication with Voyager 1 marks a significant achievement for NASA and highlights the dedication and expertise of the engineers working on the mission. Stay tuned for more updates on Voyager 1 from Road Rug Cars.
