The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, recently made a visit to Nigeria as part of their efforts to promote the Invictus Games in Africa. The royal couple’s trip included a visit to a school, meetings with injured service people, and attendance at basketball and polo games.
The visit to Nigeria was especially significant as it marked the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, a competition for injured service personnel and veterans. However, Prince Harry’s visit to the UK to celebrate the milestone was somewhat overshadowed by a diary clash that prevented him from meeting with King Charles.
Despite this, the Duke and Duchess were actively involved in various events during their time in Nigeria, including a training session for the charity organization Nigeria: Unconquered, which works closely with the Invictus Games.
Interestingly, Meghan Markle chose to skip the UK celebrations in order to join Prince Harry in LA before their trip to Nigeria. This decision raised some eyebrows, as did another perceived snub to Prince Harry in the form of Prince William being appointed colonel-in-chief of Harry’s former military regiment, the Army Air Corps.
Overall, the royal couple’s visit to Nigeria was a successful and impactful one, further highlighting their dedication to supporting and promoting the Invictus Games and its mission of celebrating the resilience and spirit of wounded veterans.
