Title: “Powerful Storm Causes Widespread Destruction in Mesa, AZ”
Mesa, AZ – A fierce storm wreaked havoc in the East Valley on Wednesday night, leaving a trail of destruction and power outages in its wake. Over 43,000 SRP and APS customers were initially affected, but dedicated crews worked tirelessly to restore service throughout the night and into the morning.
As dawn broke, approximately 3,300 utility customers were still without power, with the majority residing in SRP service areas around Mesa. The storm’s aftermath kept first responders in Mesa on their toes, as they addressed the widespread damage left behind. Roofs were torn off mobile homes and apartment buildings, particularly in the Palm Harbor Estates community near Mesa Drive and McKellips. Additionally, the area saw downed power lines and uprooted trees, exacerbating the situation.
Fortunately, amidst the chaos, there have been no reported injuries. However, reporter Sarah Robinson, from Road Rug Cars, witnessed extensive damage at an apartment complex near the Loop 202 freeway. Powerful winds blew out air conditioning units, serving as a poignant reminder of the storm’s intensity.
While the storm provided some respite from a month-long heatwave in the Valley of the Sun, temperatures are expected to quickly rebound, with a scorching high of 116 degrees forecasted for Thursday. Phoenix Sky Harbor reported no measurable rainfall, continuing the city’s dry spell.
The weekend and early next week hold a glimmer of hope for residents, as chances for storms are expected to increase. These storms may bring temperatures below 110 degrees for the first time in nearly a month. Local residents are encouraged to share any weather-related photographs or videos to document the storm’s impact.
