The first case of measles has been confirmed in a Lake County resident, linked to the ongoing outbreak in Chicago where 17 cases have been reported this year. This brings the total number of measles cases in Illinois to approximately 65 since 2010.
Health officials are currently working to identify and notify individuals who may have been exposed to the infected person. Two exposure locations have been identified as Consume Restaurant in Lake Zurich and Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Vaccinated individuals are considered to be protected and do not need to take any further action. However, unvaccinated individuals are advised to contact the health department’s communicable disease team for guidance.
