Astronomy enthusiasts and star gazers on the East Coast of the U.S. are in for a treat this month as two celestial events are set to take place in the night sky.
On May 23rd, the full Moon will appear close to the red star Antares in the constellation of Scorpius. What makes this event even more special is that those on the East Coast will witness the Moon passing in front of Antares in an event known as an occultation. Over the course of a couple of hours, the Moon will obscure and then reveal Antares as they both rise into the night sky.
But the celestial fun doesn’t stop there. On May 31st, early risers will be able to catch a glimpse of planet Saturn rising with the crescent Moon in the wee hours of the morning. The two will be visible toward the southeast and will be close enough to be observed in the same field of view through binoculars.
These events provide a great opportunity for people to step outside and marvel at the beauty of the night sky. Whether you’re an experienced astronomer or just someone who enjoys looking up at the stars, these celestial events are sure to be a sight to behold.
So mark your calendars and set your alarms for May 23rd and May 31st to witness these magical moments in the night sky. Remember, nature’s beauty is always worth the early morning wake-up call.
