Iconic actor Kevin Bacon made a surprise visit to Payson High School ahead of its scheduled demolition, much to the delight of students and community members. The visit was part of a campaign initiated by the school’s students and local residents to bring Bacon back to the iconic “Footloose” film location, which was filmed at the school 40 years ago.
In partnership with the Utah Film Commission, efforts were made to bring Bacon back to Payson High School to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the beloved movie. His visit coincided with the school’s prom, which was appropriately themed “Everybody Cut Footloose” in honor of the film.
Bacon’s visit was not just for nostalgia’s sake, as he used the opportunity to support his foundation, SixDegrees.org, which aims to sustain and enrich local communities. In a heartwarming display of community spirit, students in Payson contributed 5,000 essential resource kits for those in need, with over 1,000 volunteers helping prepare the kits on the school’s football field.
During his visit, Bacon praised the dedication and generosity of the students and community members, drawing parallels between the spirit of Payson today and his first visit to the town 40 years ago. The event brought the community together in a meaningful way, emphasizing the power of film and the importance of giving back to those in need.
