Residents in New Jersey woke up to a stunning sight early Wednesday morning as a bright fireball streaked across the sky, captured on video in several towns. The American Meteor Society received reports of sightings around 3:45 a.m. from various locations in New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania.
Doorbell camera footage from a resident in Millville, New Jersey showed the flash of light illuminating the sky before disappearing. Witnesses described seeing a bright green flashing ball falling from the sky, leading some to speculate that it was a meteorite.
The sightings occurred just a week before the start of the Lyrids Meteor Shower, one of the oldest known meteor showers observed for 2,700 years. This event comes on the heels of Monday’s solar eclipse in the area, which had over 90% coverage, and last week’s earthquake near Lebanon, New Jersey.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, skygazers in California witnessed a series of bright fiery lights streaking across the night sky. These lights were later confirmed to be from the Chinese Shenzhou 15 Orbital Module rocket re-entering the earth’s atmosphere.
The recent celestial events have left residents across the country in awe, with many taking to social media to share their experiences and theories about what they saw. As scientists continue to study these phenomena, one thing is for certain – the wonders of the universe never fail to captivate us.
