Former Glam Metal Star Pursues Dentistry Career
Janet Gardner, the former lead vocalist of the glam metal band Vixen, has made a surprising career change after her music journey ended. Gardner, now featured in the three-part docuseries “I Wanna Rock” on Paramount+, has traded in the stage for a dental office.
The documentary highlights various artists from the ’80s rock scene and sheds light on Gardner’s transition from a successful music career to pursuing dentistry. Motivated by a desire for a better work-life balance and to provide for her family, Gardner made the bold decision to switch gears and follow her passion for dentistry.
Currently working part-time as a dental hygienist, Gardner manages to balance her dental career with her love for music. It has allowed her to continue making music and even go on tour while providing dental care to her patients. However, the secret of her rock star past may soon be out, as she anticipates more fans will become aware of her dental profession after the release of the docuseries.
Vixen, formed in high school by founding member and lead guitarist Jan Kuehnemund, rose to fame when they moved to Los Angeles in 1985. The band’s self-titled debut album, released in 1988, spawned two hit singles, “Edge of a Broken Heart” and “Cryin’.” Their success led them to tour with the legendary Ozzy Osbourne in 1989, marking a significant milestone in their career.
Unfortunately, the emergence of the grunge music scene in Seattle caused a decline in glam metal popularity, leading Vixen to disband for several years. Although they had a brief reunion in 2004, the band eventually went their separate ways once again.
Reflecting on her time as a rock star, Gardner remains grateful for the experiences and opportunities it brought her. She continues to make music to this day, demonstrating that her passion for both dentistry and music can coexist harmoniously.
As fans eagerly await the release of “I Wanna Rock” and its revelations about Gardner’s dual career, it is certain that her story will inspire others to pursue their passions regardless of societal expectations. Gardner sets an excellent example of resilience and determination, proving that life after fame can still be filled with purpose and fulfillment.
