Renowned Mental Health Advocate, Rosalynn Carter, Honored in Atlanta Tribute Service
Atlanta, Georgia – Former President Jimmy Carter and notable lawmakers came together in Atlanta to pay tribute to the late Rosalynn Carter, a renowned mental health advocate. The tribute service, held yesterday, celebrated Carter’s remarkable advocacy efforts and mourned her passing on November 19 at the age of 96.
In attendance were President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, as well as former President Bill Clinton and former First Ladies Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, and Melania Trump. The invitation-only service also welcomed Carter’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The proceedings commenced with a solemn motorcade procession that transported Carter to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. Here, she lay in repose, allowing the public to pay their final respects to the woman who dedicated her life to promoting mental health awareness.
Following the tribute service, Carter’s coffin will be transported to a local church where a special church service will take place. The service will be graced by performances from country music legends Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, paying tribute to Carter’s love for the genre.
A private funeral service for close friends and family members is scheduled for Wednesday, providing an intimate opportunity for loved ones to bid farewell to Carter.
Carter, throughout her lifetime, spearheaded numerous initiatives and advocacy campaigns to raise awareness about mental health. She founded the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving, a widely recognized organization focusing on meeting the needs of caregivers and improving mental health support across the nation.
Carter’s dedication to mental health was not only limited to the United States. She traveled extensively, championing global mental health policies and initiatives, leaving an indelible impact on the international mental health community.
Her tireless efforts were acclaimed globally, earning her numerous accolades and awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States.
