Astronauts Aboard International Space Station Prepare for Thanksgiving Feast
As Thanksgiving approaches, astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) are gearing up for a unique holiday celebration. The Expedition 70 crew, led by Commander Andreas Mogensen, is preparing to enjoy a lavish feast, thanks to supplies delivered by the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft earlier this month.
The Thanksgiving dinner, set to take place on November 23, will provide the six flight engineers on board with a taste of home during their time in space. The crew consists of NASA’s Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O’Hara, Japan’s Satoshi Furukawa, and Russia’s Konstantin Borisov, Nikolai Chub, and Oleg Kononenko.
The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, which docked with the ISS on November 11, brought ample supplies, including a variety of traditional Thanksgiving foods. The crew will have an opportunity to indulge in a delicious holiday meal, despite being far away from their loved ones back on Earth.
In anticipation of Thanksgiving, the astronauts took a moment to share their gratitude for the incredible view of Earth from the ISS. They sent heartwarming Thanksgiving greetings from space on Wednesday, expressing their appreciation for the breathtaking sight they witness daily.
Commander Andreas Mogensen expressed his awe at the sight of Earth from space. He stated, “We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to witness the beauty of our planet from this unique vantage point. It reminds us of the importance of taking care of our home and being thankful for all that it provides.”
NASA’s Jasmin Moghbeli also conveyed her gratitude, saying, “Happy Thanksgiving! We are fortunate to be able to celebrate aboard the ISS and appreciate the incredible wonders of Earth from up here.”
The crew’s Thanksgiving celebration offers a reminder of the unity and shared experiences that transcend borders and distance. Although they may be far from home, the astronauts will enjoy a meaningful feast together while reflecting on the beauty and fragility of our planet.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving on Earth, let us also take a moment to appreciate the astronauts aboard the ISS, who continue to inspire us with their dedication and awe-inspiring view of our world.
