NASA astronaut Frank Rubio has revealed that his extended stay in space for an additional six months has significantly improved his job performance. During his time on the International Space Station (ISS), Rubio conducted self-assessments and utilized the opportunity to become more efficient in his work.
Rubio was able to identify his strengths and weaknesses and dedicated the second half of his mission to improving them. He considers himself lucky to have been able to immediately implement the lessons he learned, as many astronauts have to wait years for a second mission.
Rubio made history by breaking a U.S. record for spaceflight, spending an impressive 371 continuous days in space. This extended stay was due to a leak in his Soyuz spacecraft, which raised concerns and caused delays. Alongside the leak, two other coolant issues with Russian ISS hardware further added to the troubles faced during Rubio’s time in space.
However, Rubio successfully adjusted to the unforeseen circumstances, thanks to his military background and the tremendous support he received from his friends and family. The overwhelming love and encouragement they provided played a vital role in helping him cope with the difficult situation.
In a lighthearted update, Rubio mentioned a lost dwarf tomato on the space station. He joked that it was likely discarded and desiccated as it went missing during his time there.
Rubio’s experience exemplifies the resilience and adaptability of astronauts in the face of unexpected challenges. His self-assessments and determination to enhance his performance while in space serve as an inspiration to others in the field. With the support of his loved ones and the valuable lessons he learned, Rubio has not only become a record-breaking astronaut but also a testament to the strength of the human spirit in the pursuit of knowledge and advancement in space exploration.
